The Great Library is open to the legal profession only as follows:
Regular Hours
Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Statutory Holidays CLOSED
After Hours
Monday to Friday 4:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Saturdays and Sundays 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Statutory Holidays: The schedule of Statutory and Civil Service Holidays is revised annually in cooperation with the Director of Security for the Law Courts building. The current year's Schedule is posted further down on this page.
AFTER HOURS ACCESS GUIDELINES
for Members of the Law Society, Articling Students, University of Manitoba Law Students, lawyers from other Canadian Law Societies and staff of Manitoba Justice
Access after normal business hours to the Law Courts building and the Great Library is controlled by Law Courts security staff. Security staff require all lawyers and students entering the Law Courts after hours to have valid identification. This means:
- Private Bar - You must have a current membership card from the Law Society of Manitoba. If you are a lawyer from another jurisdiction, you must present a CURRENT membership card from your home jurisdiction. If you do not have a law society card, you must contact The Law Society of Manitoba to see if access to the library will be granted. You will be asked to put your request in writing with details about why you are requesting access. If your request is granted, you will be given a letter to present to Law Courts Security when you request access after regular business hours.
- Manitoba Justice - You must have your Government photo pass.
- Articling Students - You must ensure that your name is on the list of articling students compiled by The Law Society of Manitoba. If your name is not on the list, contact The Law Society.
- University of Manitoba Law Students - You must have your name on the list compiled by the Faculty of Law, and provided to The Law Society of Manitoba. If your name is not on the list, contact the Faculty of Law.
The following additional persons may qualify for after hours access:
Other Law Students - If you are a student at another university law school, you must contact The Law Society of Manitoba to see if access to the library will be granted. You will be asked to put your request in writing with details about why you are requesting access. If your request is granted, you will be given a letter to present to Law Courts Security when you request access after regular business hours.
